Basarnas Evacuates Fishermen Victims of Accidents in the Natuna Sea

The Natuna Basarnas managed to rescue 3 fishermen in a boat when the engine died in an accident in the Natuna Sea, Riau Islands Province, Sunday night July 10.

"There were 3 fishermen who experienced engine failure while fishing in the Natuna waters at coordinates 3°53'55.59″ N 108°25'54.20″ E with a distance of 2.4 nautical miles from Penagi Harbor, Ranai, Natuna," said the head of the Natuna Basarnas (Kakansar), Mexianus Be Kabel, quoted by Antara.

According to Mexianus, his party received information regarding the fishing boat accident from a local resident.

"Three fishermen using pompong/motorboats with the aim of looking for fish in the Natuna waters experienced an engine failure at 17.30 WIB," said Kakansar.

Based on the report, the Natuna Basarnas immediately dispatched a SAR team to the location using an RIB boat to evacuate the fishermen.

"The Natuna SAR Office Rescue Team departed for Penagi port using the D-MAX Rescue Car with a distance of 7 km with an estimated travel time of 15 minutes, and continued with RIB 03 to the coordinate point location," explained Kakansar.

Pompong with a capacity of 3 GT with 3 fishermen named Bahari (L), Budi (L) and Teguh (L) from Tapau Village, Central Bunguran District, Natuna, was found by the SAR team and evacuated to Pering port, East Bunguran, Ranai, Natuna .

"We had a broken engine ring earlier, we plan to go fishing, we will return tomorrow morning," said Bahari (32) when he arrived at Pering port, early Monday, July 11th.

He also thanked Basarnas for helping them to survive the accident.

"Before we contacted Basarnas, I tried to contact fellow fishermen, because the water was low they couldn't go," said Bahari.

He also said that he was worried about their condition if there was no help, given the uncertain weather conditions.

"We are afraid that the wind will come down, because the sea is quiet, there are no other fishermen around us," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Operations Section of the Natuna Basarnas, Budiman, reminded fishermen to be vigilant before going to sea.

"It is hoped that fishermen will better prepare themselves before going to sea, the weather is uncertain at this time, don't forget to prepare safety equipment and communication tools," said Budiman onboard the KN Sasikirana belonging to Basarnas after evacuating victims.
